National consultation on intellectual properties

The Intellectual Property Division under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MoEA) organised a two-day National Stakeholder Consultation Meeting on the draft National Intellectual Property Policy last week in Thimphu.
The draft Policy was formulated with assistance from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) through which Mr. Sisule Musungu, a Policy Consultant hired by WIPO and Mr. Someshwar Singh, Program Officer from WIPO, initially visited Thimphu in December 2011 on this policy mission.
The Economic Development Policy 2010 mandates formulation of a coherent and comprehensive policy for the recognition and protection of intellectual property rights.
Around 30 representatives from 21 agencies, comprising of Judiciary, Government and Private Sectors attended the meeting.
