Bhutan improved in doing business

Investment climate in Bhutan has improved over the last one year, according new report by the World Bank group.

The Doing Business report 2014 ranked Bhutan at 141, an improvement of five steps. Last year Bhutan was in 146 rank. Starting a business in Bhutan has become easier but dealing with construction permits and registering a property have deteriorated.

Similarly, there has been improvement in getting electricity, getting credit, paying taxes and trading across the borders.

However, Bhutan is in second last in the list of South Asian countries after Afghanistan. Bhutan was in the same position among SAARC countries last year.

The report says, Bhutan has simplified the process for obtaining a security clearance certificate critical for starting a business.

The report further says, Bhutan has improved access to credit information through new regulations governing the licensing and functioning of the credit bureau and guaranteeing borrowers right to access their data.
