The proposed Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is set to see regression in the entertainment business as authorities in Gelephu (Gaylegphug) decide to stop issuing entertainment business licenses.

The party goers of the new generation are not absolutely happy with this decision.

The municipality council (Thromde Tshogdu) meeting concluded that youth related crime are on increasing trend as a result of growing entertainment businesses in the southern city.

However, the decision was not completely that of Tshogdu but an order from Thimphu (Home Ministry). Only two members of the Tshogdu supported the ministry order to stop issuing license while other oppose the idea.

The ministry has stripped of the authority of elected Tshogdu to issue such licenses and ordered that the ministry will have the final say before issuing entertainment business licenses.

Currently the city has seven entertainment centres many of them on verge of closing.
