A Bhutanese family in Manchester, US treated for carbon monoxide
Seven members of a Bhutanese family in Manchester, US have been released from hospital after being treated for the unconsciousness caused by smoke that was thought initially could have been due to carbon monoxide.
The problems started Sunday morning, CBS Boston reported.
When Bhumika Chhetri woke up in the morning that day, she found her niece and nephew, both children, were unconscious. Her sister, parents and parents were feeling ill as well. Then her husband called 911 for emergency service.
“I started feeling dizzy,” said Duryo Adhikari, the newspaper quoted. “I went to the bathroom and vomited twice.”
Fire fighters believe a faulty stove that wasn’t venting properly is to blame for the carbon monoxide poisoning. Investigators say, had they not called for emergency service, though have died of the poisoning.
“It’s probably been like that in their apartment for quite some time,” said Manchester Fire District Chief Jim Michael. “Slowly but surely adding up in the bloodstream.”
All seven were treated at a Manchester hospital and then sent to a Boston hospital for more treatment before being released on Tuesday.
The apartment did not have a carbon monoxide detector.
Fire fighters eventually ventilated the apartment until carbon monoxide readings were reduced to zero.
