Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay has confirmed he would travel to India to participate in the oath taking ceremony of the newly elected Indian Prime Minister Narendra modi.

Prime Minister was invited by the Government of India and victorious Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to attend the ceremony along with other government heads from SAARC countries.

The BJP secured unprecedented victory in recent election and elected Modi to be the 15th prime minister of India.

The oath taking ceremony is scheduled for Monday (26 May) where government heads from all SAARC nations, including the rival Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaj Sharif, are invited.

The Afghan, Maldivian and Sri Lankan presidents and the Bhutanese and Nepalese prime ministers confirmed their participation. Pakistani premier Nawaz Sharif was yet to take a decision about participating.

Apart from leaders from SAARC countries, Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam will also attend the ceremony.

This is the first time India invited the leaders from the neighbouring countries to the oath taking ceremony of its prime minister.
