AFPPD director visits Bhutan

The Acting Director of Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) John N Hyde met with Speaker of National Assembly Jigme Zangpo on Thursday (9 April) morning. The Director was accompanied by Mary Antonetie Abello, Programme Specialist for South Asia Advocacy.
Speaker Zangpo expressed his appreciation for the cooperation rendered by AFPPD to the Bhutanese parliamentarians on population and development front. He also expressed that he would like to see the collaboration between the Parliament of Bhutan and AFPPD strengthen in the coming years.
John N Hyde expressed his thanks for the participation of Bhutanese parliamentarians in forums organised by AFPPD in the last few years. Further, he informed the Hon Speaker on the procedures to become a formal member of the AFPPD by forming a National Committee.
The AFPPD in collaboration with the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and the National Assembly of Bhutan will be organising a workshop for the Bhutanese parliamentarians on 10 April. The workshop is aimed at increasing the knowledge of Bhutanese parliamentarians on population and development issues.
