Mamata talks business with King JKNW

King Jigme Khesar at a meeting with visiting Chief Minister of West Bengal state of India Mamata Banerjee, discussed business relations and other issues of mutual interests.

“The meeting with his majesty was very cordial and we discussed several issues including ways and means to forge collaboration in areas like irrigation, potato farming, agro industry and tourism,” she told media persons in Thimphu.

In her Facebook post, Mamata wrote, “The warmth and courtesies extended by the King and the Royal Family was indeed overwhelming. I took the opportunity to place before His Highness how our state and our country valued the warm and cordial relationship with Bhutan.”

Mamata proposed to the King to set up of business, economic, cultural, and tourism corridors with Bhutan, which she felt will enhance economic activity in the region.

Mamata wrote in her post that she was amazed to visit Bhutan. Even she discussed about medical tourism for the Bhutan people. She was making efforts to divert Bhutanese from Bangkok to Kolkata for medical trips.

Besides attending a high tea party hosted by the Indian embassy in Thimphu, Mamata met with Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay earlier. One of the important discussion was on reviewing the proposed Bhutan-India railway project.

While Mamata invited Tobgay to visit Kolkata in 2016, King offered Mamata that he will be visiting Kolkata in 2016.
