Karki attends DRC workshop
President of Bhutanese Community in The Netherlands (BCN) Ram Karki has attended Global Refugee Forum Workshop organised Danish Refugee Council on August 31 and September 1 in Berlin.
The workshop was organised as a preparation for the forthcoming first Global Refugee Forum to be organised by UNHCR at Geneva on 17-18 December 2019.
Global Compact on Refugees (GCR) which was affirmed by the UN General Assembly on 17 December 2018 that aimed to improve the international response to new and existing refugee situation.
The first Global Refugee Forum that is scheduled for 17-18 December at Geneva is a critical opportunity to build momentum towards achieving the objectives of this new commitment and strengthen global collective response to refugee situations.
A four-member team nominated by the workshop is entrusted to preparing the final report of all the good practices and success stories discussed during the workshop for its final presentation at the GRF in Geneva.
Karki raised the issue of Bhutanese political prisoners, statelessness, Bhutanese refugees in Nepal and issues arising from family split on sideline meetings.
