IIT enters Bhutan
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati extends its market northwards targeting Bhutanese students – an entrance examination centre is announced to be established in Bhutan.
An agreement between the IIT and Sherubtse College, Royal University of Bhutan was signed recently during a visit by the college delegation led by its Tshering Wangdi.
Prof. TG Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati, said, “We are happy to sign the ToR with Sherubtse College, Royal University of Bhutan. With this ToR, IIT Guwahati will set up a Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) centre in Bhutan to encourage students from Bhutan to join the IITs in India. We also encourage students from Bhutan to undertake full-time programmes or work as research interns in various departments at IIT Guwahati.”
Bhutan centre was part of IIT Guwahati’s plan to reach out to students in South East Asian countries as the Centre is projecting Guwahati as the gateway to those countries.
There are similar examination centres in Dubai (UAE), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Kathmandu (Nepal), Singapore and Colombo (Sri Lanka) to join IITs.
