Tobgay thanks Indian PM Singh for assurances of support

President of the People’s Democratic party, who won Saturday’s elections, Tshering Tobgay wrote to Indian Prime Minister Dr Man Mohan Singh thanking him for his assurances of “steadfast and unflinching” support and asserted his “unwavering resolve and commitment to preserve and strengthen the special ties” with India.

Tobgay said, India was instrumental in ensuring the success of democracy and sustaining the pace of socio-economic development in Bhutan.

“My party and I attach the greatest importance to our relations with India which has been consciously nurtured and strengthened over many decades under the wise and able leadership of our successive Kings,” the letter sent on Thursday reads.

“I would like to further assure Your Excellency of my unwavering resolve and commitment to preserve and strengthen our special ties that has always been based on mutual trust, confidence and understanding,” the letter further reads.

Tobgay said Singh’s “kind assurances of support are a great source of comfort and encouragement” to him and his party adding he looks forward to working very closely with India and was fully confident that “the age-old ties of friendship, cooperation and goodwill” between the two countries will grow from strength to strength in the years ahead.

Tobgay said its an honour to receive invitation from PM Singh to visit India at the earliest possible but has mentioned nothing whether he is willing to visit and when.
