Chief Justice Tobgay calls Sri Lankan president

Chief Justice of Bhutan Sonam Topgye who reached Sri Lanka to participate in the Conference to determine Buddhist Laws, met with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse at the Temple Trees on Friday (9 May).

The two leaders recalled the long standing cultural relations between the two countries. Tobgay is reported to have said that Buddhist teachings and precepts are in accordance in all directions with democracy and that Buddhist teachings enable the human beings to lead a joyous life.

He also commended the President Rajapakse for taking measures to usher peace in Sri Lanka.

President Rajapakse suggested to look into the possibilities of organizing training programmes and dialogues on Buddhist Jurisdiction in both countries. Attention has been focused on signing an agreement of understanding in this connection.
