ABA USA convention concludes

The seventh national convention of the Association of Bhutanese in America (ABA) has recently concluded. The convention was held in Philadelphia in collaboration with Bhutanese American Organization of Philadelphia.
The two-day gathering saw presentation on US education system, accessible resources to the women and success stories of new immigrants in the USA through business enterprises.
Tom Corbett, Governor of Pennsylvania, in his message sent to the convention, mentioned, “Bhutanese Americans represent a vital component to our Commonwealth’s diverse ethnic and social community. I commend these associations for their commitment to improving the well-being of Bhutanese-Americans by representing their interests and promoting Bhutanese history and culture.”
A representative from Lutheran Children and Family Services appreciated the progress Bhutanese in US made while Dr. N. Nina Ahmad, Commissioner, President’s Commission for White House Initiative for Asian American and Pacific Islander, said, “We are watching you all progressing- forgetting those hard lived days in Bhutan and in the refugee camps in this short span of time.” He also advised to work towards preservation of culture, values and history.
Viswanath Chettri, Chairperson of ABA, out-going executive director Hari Acharya, Madav Phuyel and Leela Kuenkel of Bhutanese American Organization in Philadelphia spoke in the program. Kishore Pradhan is designated the Acting Executive Director.
