Australian Bhutanese celebrated Lord Krishna’s Birthday

Bhutanese in Australia celebrated the birth anniversary of the Lord Krishna with various functions across the state.
According to news received from Melbourne, Bhutanese Community in Australia celebrated Sri Krishna Janmashtami on 17 August 2014 at Community Hub Broadmeadows where young and old came together to mark function with much fervour and devotion in harmony.
The official program began with speech from priests followed by number of activities such as bhajans, dramatic play that depicts the birth of Lord Krishna, religious dances and Arati. They offered prayers to Lord Krishna and also chanted holy mantras, read religious scripture Bhagavad Gita, conducted bhajans.
While devotees worship the lord, dramatic plays and religious dances were some key attractions of the celebration.
The event was observed by participants from MRC Spectrum, Salvation Army and local Nepalese Community. Over 200 people gathered in a community hall to mark the Janmashtami.
The Bhutanese community in Adelaide also celebrated the event with Hindu community coming together. Over 200 people gathered at a personal residence in Salisbury North to observe the festival. It was funded through community contribution. Priests recited rituals and mock ‘Krishna birth’ was performed.
Krishna is the eight incarnation of Lord Vishnu as described in Hindu scriptures. He was born on the 8th day of the Shravan month, which in the Hindu calendar is known as “Ashtami”. And with Janma meaning “birth”, the day is celebrated as Janmashtami.
