King Khesar celebrates sixth coronation anniversary

The fifth King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk is celebrating his sixth coronation anniversary today (November 1).

His coronation event was held in 2008, nearly two years later he took over the responsibilities of the throne from fourth King Jigme Singye on December 9, 2006.

During his eight years of reigning, Bhutan saw major political, economic and social changes.The biggest of them is the transition from absolute monarchy to constitutional democratic governance and political freedom.

Consolidation of foreign and domestic investments through Druk Holding and Investment, established through a Royal Charter in 2007, is another important step taken in economic front.
