King talks against corruption
Days after the government sacked three secretaries on corruption related scandal, King Jigme Khesar has given out strong signal against corruption, indicating Bhutan has bigger corruption problem than is being seen in public.
“The highest probable risk to development that I foresee is corruption,” he said at a national day address in Trashigang. “Our national development efforts will be hindered by unchecked corruption.”
He further said, “Corruption is unambiguous- there is no great or small corruption. And no one can be above the law,” adding, “corruption must be curtailed and more than ever before, extraordinary service must be recognised and rewarded”.
In the national day editorial, Kuensel said, “Corruption is the biggest problem facing the country today. We are a small nation. We cannot allow corruption to eat into our governance system”.
