The media is dying, journalists are leaving the profession and few media are under strict government control who rarely write under-table business in bureaucracy.

Free online platform and access to internet in Bhutan has given possible truth speakers in Bhutan. More than formal media, the informal media activism – Blogging – has become more popular in Bhutan in recent years.

To make themselves more strong and vocal, the bloggers in the country have come together to have a forum – which they named Community of Bhutanese Bloggers (CBB).

The gathering of 35 Bhutanese bloggers on June 24 in Thimphu, including popular bloggers Sangay Khandu and Passang Tshering, conceived the idea of having a committee of bloggers.

“On top of many things that transpired during the meet, one of the most significant outcomes was the unanimous decision reached to form a formal group of bloggers, a platform aimed at encouraging and inspiring more bloggers around the country. The members decided that we will call it Community of Bhutanese Bloggers and will have a working committee to coordinate regular meetings and other activities. For now we formed a committee to draft Constitution and agreed we will collect membership fees to sustain the group,” one of the bloggers Nawang Phuntsho said.

A team has been assigned to draft the CBB Constitution by July 11 after which a formal election will be held to elect committee members.
