Polish delegates visit Bhutan
A group of Polish envoys travelled to the kingdom’s capital, Thimphu, for high-level talks three years after Poland and Bhutan established diplomatic relations.
The aim of the delegation, which comprised officials from the MFA and the Ministry of the Environment, the Polish Ambassador to India, and representatives of ten companies awarded in the Greenevo programme, was to initiate political and economic contacts between the two states.
“I believe this first, historic visit of the Polish delegates to Bhutan will pave the way for fruitful bilateral collaboration,” Michał Kołodziejski, head of the Polish ministry’s Asia-Pacific Department said following talks with Foreign Minister Damcho Dorji, alongside representatives of other ministries and Mayor of Thimphu municipality.
“Prospects for future cooperation are particularly promising in the field of green technology projects,” Kołodziejski said. A presentation of ten firms recognised under the Environment Ministry’s Greenevo programme, promoting innovative environmental technologies, marked the highlight of the visit.
Other items on the agenda of bilateral talks included collaboration within the United Nations framework and the potential dispatch of development aid from Warsaw, alongside future collaboration in agriculture and public transport.
Polish authorities look to appointing an honorary consul of Poland in Thimphu, so as to provide assistance to Polish tourists travelling to Bhutan each year and to help get trade exchange off the ground, Michał Kołodziejski told Damcho Dorji.
Poland first established diplomatic relations with Bhutan in November 2012. Since March 2015, Poland’s Ambassador in New Delhi has been accredited to Bhutan.
