DNT certain to form new government

With the conclusion of the Third Parliamentary election, the Bhutanese electorate has yet again invited an unknown party into the power to run the government for next five years.

Unofficial results who the new party led by Dr Lotay Tshering, Druk Nyamrup Tshogpa has won at least 30 seats in the 47-seat National Assembly. A party requires only 24 to form the government.

The DPT will continue its role in opposition, with slight increase in their number of seats compared to last term. The DPT has won most of the eastern districts while DNT swept west and south – as expected.

The voting was highly influenced by PDP and former National Council members who tag DPT as anti-king party. With desperate run in eastern districts to win the numbers, Prime Minister to be Dr Lotay Tshering had surrendered east won’t give him votes.
