Earthquake hits Bhutan

An earthquake of 5.0 magnitude struck Bhutan at 12.13 am local on Thursday. The epicentre was about 69 km northwest of Gangtok in Sikkim, 119 km north-northwest of Siliguri (West Bengal) and 272 km east of Kathmandu (Nepal).
There aren’t any reports of any damages or casualties but the earthquake triggered closure of schools and colleges in Sikkim.
According to reports, some buildings have developed cracks and people are out on the streets in Sikkim.
The region shows a pattern of earthquake in the region. Since 2009, the region is experiencing every year at this time of the year.
In 2009, eastern Bhutan saw unprecedented damage due to 6.1 magnitude earthquake while September 18, 2011 a 6.8 magnitude earthquake jolted northern India, Bhutan and Nepal
