As the election campaign for by-election in Sanong-Shumar constituency in Pema Gatshel finishes, political parties are waiting for people to vote. The votes are scheduled for November 9.

PDP is pitching Pema Wangchuk, a familiar face having this year alone contested in three parliamentary elections, DPT has a young businesswoman, Dechen Zangmo.

The district is a stronghold of the DPT from where former Prime Minister Jigmi Thinley comes. However, owing to the changed political propositions and PDP’s familiar face, DPT is likely to face the hardest challenge.

Both the parties have sent their top men to assit the candidates in the field. The ruling party has its two ministers, Norbu Wangchuk and Yeshey Dorji helping shore up winning votes for their candidate, while it was Khar-Yurung member Zangley Dukpa and Kengkhar-Weringla’s Rinzin Jamtsho from the opposition lending a hand to their candidate.

They are in the field in the capacity of party president and vice president while actually they aren’t. Win makes no changes in parliament and the government.
