The largest open and organised farmer’s market of the country Centenary Farmers Market in Thimphu held its 10th annual management meeting this week, with Agricultural Minister Yeshey Dorji as the guest speaker.

Participants pointed out that the number of stalls present were not enough especially during summer season to which the committee decided that they will look into the possibility of increasing the number of stalls by studying the infrastructural possibilities and underutilised areas in order to render support and platform to the local farmers.

Similarly, CFM staff proposed to take over the parking fee collection activity with effect from October 2014 which was previously outsourced, which was endorsed in hope that it would increase the market’s profit and help towards sustainability.

The letter from the Thimphu municipality asking the CFM to pay lease of Nu 1,935,240 per year was hotly debated and remained unresolved.
